MET Gala | Zuhair Murad GownsSunday, May 09, 2010
Lazy Sunday means re-flipping through all my mags, re-surfing the internet, and re-focusing my attention to all the little details I may have overlooked at the first go-round. I've gone through all the MET Gala's best and worst dressed, re-examined who I'd like to showcase, and I have to say, I was quite bored with this year's parade of chignons and chiffons.
The usual bevy of beauties simply showed up when they should have been stopping traffic at New York's most prestigious gala honoring American women in fashion. Haven't we seen the nude dress- red lips combo one too many times this season? (Ahem, Taylor!)
None stood out more to me than Jennifer Lopez, always the glam-ified crowd-pleaser in a dazzling Zuhair Murad confection demonstrating the hautest display of gauze and glitz. Lopez brings a saucy air of authority to this gown, elevating its conventional shape (had it born worn by, say Anne Hathaway, even though I do adore her) to superstar status merely by pursing her lips and steadying her gaze.
This Beirut-bred atelier got his first big break after showcasing his premiere Couture collection in 2001 at Paris' fashion week to international acclaim and applause. Since then he's collaborated with popular retailers such as Mango and debuted his own prêt-a-porter collection garnering the much needed attention of A-list celebrities and celebutantes alike. Be on the lookout to see this rising star over and over again on the red carpet and in your favorite editorials. Murad's Spring/Summer 2010 Collection alone is such a masterpiece, it deserves its own spot in the MET.
