Design Star Week | More Shameless PromotingMonday, June 07, 2010
Everyone googles themselves. It's a known fact. Those who claim they don't need to man up and take some accountability dude. It's actually kinda shameless but how else am I supposed to know how to market my business unless I know what's out there right? And boy, did I find some interesting stuff.
Since we're only 6 days away from the premiere of the BEST SHOW EVER, wanted to fill you guys in on what the bloggers are saying....let's see if you agree ;D
Julie Khuu is being marketed as the bitchy one, if you read between the lines of her HGTV bio. Described as a socialite who “believes she is often underestimated because of her looks and must be ‘bossy and direct’ in order for people to take her seriously,” Julie is (so far) the only contestant smart enough to throw a slick website together in time for her HGTV debut. The commercial work featured in her company’s portfolio has enough bling to land Julie my vote as “Most Likely to Collaborate with Sparkle Josh” someday, but at least there’s some good visual drama in that.
My prediction for Julie: The residential side of her portfolio lacks the go-power of her commercial work, so I’m not sure Julie will be able to go the distance if she’s designing for the Average Joe. The producers won’t be able to resist keeping a villain on the roster though, so she should beat out at least half of her competitors.
In anticipation of the season premiere, I scoped out the contestants on HGTV's Design Star site and perused their portfolios that scored them a spot in the challenge. Here are a few of my favorites:
"Relaxing beachy patio in the city"- The Design Slice
Based on their designs alone, my favorites are Julie Khuu, Michael Moeller, Tom Vecchione, and Trent Hultgren.
Our Design Star Pick:
If we had to guess a winner early on, it would have to be 29 year old Julie Khuu. Julie has experience designing intimate spaces (residences), and also the glam (nightclubs). Out of all the portfolios we have seen, we think Julie’s is the best representation of today’s design innovations.
Who said bloggers don't know what they're talking about ;D
Hit me up if you find any other goodies...Good or bad, I'd love to hear what y'all think!
