Midnight Train

I did it guys!!! Peeled myself off the bed, put my face on, and made it out to Restaurant Week whoohoooo! Surprisingly enough, of the 100 or so participating restaurants in OC, only a handful had a 4+ star rating on Yelp which heavily dictated which way we would swing our votes.

Le bf and I had been scoping out 320 Main in Seal Beach for some time now and many-a-cancellations later, we finally got our grub on. Selected directly from their 3-course tasting menu with 2 apps, 2 entrees, and 2 desserts all for the low price of $30pp. Along with $5 wines, I'd say that's a pretty good deal, wouldn't you? Walked around Main St. after din to burn off those calories and what do we find?...Lo' and behold, a mobile matchstick made in heaven. Chugga chugga, choo choo!

320 Main, Seal Beach, CA

Fried brussel sprouts: lightly pickled and battered, flash fried with chopped bacon to crispy goodness, served with grainy mustard. With the salt and slight tang, I'd much rather prefer this dish as a side instead of an app. Heavy handed on the coating so I only took a few bites...Interesting enough to order though.

Duck Mac n' Cheese: Tiny cubes of duck meat folded into the mix before baking. Nothing extraordinary...but now I'm inspired to mix shredded vit quay into my sis' mac'n cheese to see what develops :D

Chilean Sea Bass on Cauliflower Puree: Suuuuuuuuper salty...I wonder if it's my preference to sushi that perpetuates my aversion to cooked fish or if this fish was indeed a salty sea monster. The puree and tomato help to balance the flavors but not enough to have me finish half the cut. Eh...next!

Angus Rib-eye: The bf's dish. He was DYING for some A-1...I pleaded against it. We didn't go to Sizzler ya know. The meat was not as tender as I had hoped and the marinade (? if there was any) was blah to say the least. In hindsight, this dish could've been the perfect entree for the brussel sprouts with all that salt built-in.

Creme brulee: Tastes like it looks. Vanilla.

Fried PB&J: Ogeezus...get ready for an oralgasm. One small bite and I was ready to get nekked y'all. *just kidding*....*not really ;P* Peanut butter, strawberry jelly (the chunky variety) and marshmallow fluff on Challah bread deep-fried with a panko crumb crust. Ok, so I could only manage 2 bites after having stuffed myself with all of the above but had I known about this masterpiece beforehand, I would have nixxed the entire meal altogether and ordered a glass of ice cold milk instead. THE. PERFECT. MUNCHIE. SNACK. Trust dude, try it at home and holla at yo' girl.

Overall rating: 3 out of 5 stars. Nothing groundbreaking, but nothing bad either. It shot .5pts. above average...thanks to the pb&j :D
