Food Porn Friday | Dueling Brunches | Orange County

Friday, June 10, 2011

Ahhhh my favorite meal of the day. Love living on the brink of Saigon Central and South Coast Plaza...the best eats in town all within a 5 mile radius...makes moving outta suburbia that much harder...however; one day, it shall be done...mark my word!!! Mustn't live amongst all this temptation when the belly's beginning to bulge...it's summertime dammit!...But in the meantime, some haute cuisine that's currently on rotation...regardless of the diet ;P I'm such a sucker, bleh!

At the Camp
2937 Bristol St. Suite A-102
Costa Mesa, CA 92626

Open Faced (top pic): Fresh Biscuit, Chicken Sausage, Scrambled Eggs, Chipotle Gravy and Queso Fresco with Potatoes...my favorite dish on their breakfast/brunch menu...A modern update on biscuits in gravy with a Spanish twist. Everything house-made, everything made to order...so dang delicious, even after days in the fridge since I can NEVER finish even half the portion when dining in.

BBQ Omelet: Slow Roasted, BBQ Style all natural pulled pork and smoked gouda cheese. Yes, they had me at gouda, man. Loves me some gourmet cheese in my omelettes...A bit heavy for my first morning meal but one of the most flavorful dishes that's equally as tasty when taken home and re-baked. The common denominator? BIG ASS PORTIONS. How can one resist? =P

...and of course, fresh squeezed OJ and Black Coffee with a house-made biscuit...so English!

and for those craving some Vietnamese/French goodies....

9684 Westminster Blvd
Garden Grove, CA 92844

Curry Chicken (Cari Ga) with french bread, veggie soup and iceberg lettuce salad. Love Tai Buu's portions and pricing...Perfect little starter meal for under $6...One of the things I love best about this place is that they pre-make all their stews so you can simply stop in and order take-out in less time than it takes to drive thru McD's...with a whole lot less caloric intake and more bang for your buck...Look at all those gorgeous colors!

Beef Stew (Bo Kho) with french bread, soup, and salad...Same price as above, super hearty, aromatic braised beef simmered in a pot o' love <3. Not the best Bo Kho in Bolsa (see below), but pretty decent nonetheless.

and for THE BEST Beef Noodle Stew in town...dun dun dun....

9122 Bolsa Ave
Westminster, CA 92683

Beef Noodle Stew/ Hu Tieu Bo Kho served with thin rice noodles, garnished with fresh Thai basil, white onions and jalapeno slices....Dude, how can you NOT love this??? Try it once and I swear you'll be HOOKED! Spicy and piping haute!

*Insider's tip* Don't forget to order a side of their Chicken Croissant...soooo dang delicious...crunchy on the outside, peppery barbequed creamy chicken on the inside...SO SCRUMPTIOUS! They were sold out last time I dined there so go early (by 10am) if you want to snag a bite. I've been dining at this joint since I was 5 years old...a total Bolsa institution and tastes the same as it did in the 80's...a snippet into my culinary adventures as a young tot...ahhhhh sense memory, can't fight it, don't deny it :D

Hope everyone enjoys a decadent and downright debaucherous weekend!!!
TGIF baby!
