Food Porn Friday | The Crosby | DTSA

Friday, August 26, 2011

This post is looooooong overdue. We had the pleasure of re-visiting The Crosby last month after a not so favorable first time where a party of 40+ yielded lots of pre-made fried food plus salty sea monsters that were out to get me. You know how I feel about my sodium intake man...salt does NOT always equal flavor! With that said, thank god I gave it another go 'round for a specialty dinner prepared by the talented (and too too generous) Executive Chef Aron Habiger who not only redeemed the restaurant, but totally makes me want to book a private party there for my next event. Such gorgeous presentations, made with love, handled with care. Here's the lowdown peeps, plate by plate.

Swordfish Ceviche with fresh salsa and fried peas (above). Love the concept of this dish...ceviche and seaweed salad? Why didn't I think of that?? The mish mash of textures (slimy and crunchy) propels this dish from boring to brilliant! Very Asian-influenced, right up my alley.

Thai Chili Hot Wings in rice vinegar dressing. One of the most popular dishes on their regular dining menu. My least favorite plate. When I think of hot wings I want mine crunchy and jam packed with spice and peppers, theirs was a bit too soggy for my palette and not at all "hot" as advertised. No bueno, I'd pass.

Mussels with tomato, basil, and pancetta in a basil cream reduction. I hate mussels and I LOVE this dish. So fragrant and full of robust flavors...without all that seafood aftertaste. My only gripe, not enough toast! How else can we sop up all of that creamy goodness??

Escargot in arugula cream sauce. I eat escargots regularly so this dish doesn't scare me at all. What does scare me is the possibility of seismic heart failure from these suckers being drenched in butter and stewing as a result. A solid B for effort.

Filet mignon carpaccio. Prime rare beef marinated in dijon worcestershire and capers sauce dressed with grapes and pecorino romano. HOLY MOLY I've died and gone to carpaccio heaven! So dang delicious I'd petition to make this dish part of their dining menu. I've never had carpaccio with grapes before and now I won't eat rare beef without it! Fresh, flavorful, the perfect plate of yummchi..MY FAVE of the night.

Vanilla ice cream with chocolate ganache and elderflower liquer. After devouring this dish sight on scene, the girls demanded that we get some chocolate ganache. Togo. Enough for the 6 of us dining. Poor Aron obliged and I'm sure was like "WTF?" while he was at it! Hahahah, just a testament to how much girls love their dark chocolate man....sooooooo good!

Overall, such an incredible dining experience made more memorable by Aron joining us for a cocktail and late night dish over his sampler menu. If you're in the hood, make sure to drop on by and let him know I sent ya! You won't be disappointed peeps! I see great things on the immediate horizon for The Crosby...My vote?? Breakfast and Brunch pleeeeeeeeeease!

Thanks again Aron, you're THE MAN!!!
Special shout-out to AnnHO for setting this up...round 2 boo??
