#JKID Event | Alfresco Summer DinnerWednesday, September 05, 2012
As another summer sets, I’m reminded of all the good times we shared this season. Alfresco dinner parties with a bevy of my party peeps, backyard bbq’s grubbing on some greasy meaty faves, daily poolside dips to preserve my season’s tan….Ahhhhh summer, I sure dis you when you’re here but yearn when you’ve departed. That’s it! I’m making a concerted effort to start throwing fall and winter dinner parties…oh yes, OUTDOORS! Isn’t that the very reason we pay the big bucks to live in SoCal? Endless summer y’all!
Throw your own "Alfresco Summer Dinner" with these budget friendly tips:
1. Create a themed menu and enlist friends to bring their version of that dish.
Since summer's coming to a close, we kept the menu light and fresh with Spanish-inspired faves like skirt steak, chicken enchiladas, and sweet corn salad.
You can get inspired with seasonal offerings from foodtv.com or even pinterest! Who doesn't love a good potluck?!
2. Remember that presentation is key! I ALWAYS make it a point to set the table with a theme in mind. Warm reds and burnt yellows litter the tablescape reminding me of sunsets in SoCal. Purchase inexpensive market flowers by the dozen and look to your own backyard for fillers. Not only does the space feel lively and welcoming, food sure does look a lot better on a fully dressed table.
3. Keep it fancy, but functional. My number 1 rule when throwing alfresco dinner parties: no dishes! I purchased gold chargers for 50cents each at my local thrift store and layered styrofoam plates directly on top of them. You get the glam look without the dirty dish soap. It's all about creating a mood with the decor, then replacing the key pieces with disposable items. Who wants to do dishes when you're simply lounging and enjoying a fabulous time??
Happy Hump Day y'all!
How will you celebrate your last days of summer???
