Food Porn Friday | Vintage Enoteca | Los Angeles

Friday, December 14, 2012

The scene: Trendy. The cuisine: Tapas. The verdict: Eh.
We dined at Vintage Enoteca right before catching the Book of Mormon at Pantages Theater in Hollywood. I always like to map out dining destinations according to proximity and yelp reviews…duh. As an “elite” Yelper myself (oh yeah, class of 2012 baby) I rely heavily on what my community thinks of the joint before even daring to venture myself.

Here’s what I found: Their tapas-style menu is broken up into 10 sub-categories: Small bites like olives and dates, featured bruschetta, salumi/cheese mixes, salads, flatbreads, bigger bites and paninis. Dining with a large group of 10 allowed us a small bite from each category.

The HITS:
You can NEVER go wrong by starting out with some marinated olives, marcona almonds, charcuterie and cheese. Really what a typical Friday night spread looks like for me and my boo. Their petit mac & cheese is truly heavenly with bits of bread crumb topping for added texture and creamy herbed cheese from Provence. You get that pungent whiff of cheese before the plate even reaches the table, so divine! They could really bottle this baby up and call it eau de fromage! I’d rock it in a heartbeat, without the messy carbs of course :D

The warm farro salad with butternut squash, red onion, spicy feta, and sherry vinaigrette is perfect for cold, winter nights when you crave something filling, but light and healthy as well. The kick of feta complements the home-grown grains beautifully, blending sweet with spicy; my idea of the PERFECT mix! Love-love-LOVED the mushroom pasta with pappardelle, truffle oil, and cheese. So full of life and simple, earthy flavors, reminds me of Italy except I’m sure they didn’t just roll out this pasta.

The Misses: All of their flatbreads and paninis.
The equation: Cheese and protein. Protein and cheese. Repeat until exhaustion.
We ordered the Mediterranean, steak, and margherita flatbreads along with spicy ahi tuna, Italian, and pulled pork paninis. Once you’ve had one, you’ve really had them all, which is NEVER a good thing in my book.

*Insider’s tip: The space features industrial-chic décor with tall ceilings, exposed pipes, and concrete finishes. Not in the least bit warm and inviting especially when you’re having supper to catch an early matinee. Vintage Enoteca does cater to large groups; however to experience this casual and trendy wine bar as you should, my suggestion would be to dine in for date night where wine is clearly the meal of choice and small plates become your apéritifs. Work backwards to truly make this meal work for ya honey! They also feature nightly specials like Sangria Madness where you get bottomless blackberry sangria for $12 Sat/Sun during brunch from 11am-4pm with any entrée. Like I said, it’s all about the alkie here.*

TGIF y'all!!!! I'll be feasting it up for TONS of holiday shindigs which starts.right.NOW!
Hope you all enjoy a festive weekend!

Bon appétit mes amis!
