Food Porn Friday | Pandor Artisan Boulangerie | Newport Beach

Friday, August 08, 2014

Oh Pandor, you had me at Boulangerie. Fresh baguettes, crispy croissants, a brigade of baked sweets, and I’m nowhere near Bolsa! You can take the girl outta Little Saigon my loves, but you can’t take the little fobby Francophile-obsessed French-infused palate outta the girl!

Pandor serves up some of the tastiest artisan sandwiches filled with home-grown goods and delicacies when you’re not craving an ounce of paté or Vietnamese butter.

While Westminster is saturated with like-minded family-owned bakeries, there’s something to be said about Pandor’s casual quick-style cuisine that prides itself on sourcing fresh, local ingredients and serving them up in a stylish Parisian-inspired café. Did I mention they actually CATER to their customers here? Lol, yup! Bolsa sure could learn a thing or two about quality service!

Peep out what’s on the menu today:

Peanut Butter and Jelly French Toast with mixed berries and whipped cream. I’m that girl that LOVES her sweet with a little bit of savory. My perfect flavor profile’s also got a bit of fresh fruit involved so this French toast was ACES in my book! Obviously a little heavy to wolf in just one sitting so it’s best to share this sucker so you can sample all the other goodies on the menu.

Spicy Chicken Panini with Harrissa mayonnaise and Swiss cheese. Almost like a pesto grade schmear with shredded chicken. A lot milder than it looks so a dollop of green tabasco helps to elevate this dish. Honestly, the bread they use is such a perfect mix of chewy and crispy that I’m not hating on the filling one bit.

Pandor Croque Monsieur with béchamel, ham & cheese with a thick slice of Provencal loaf bread. Pure heaven. The French version of a Cubano sandwich. The ham is sliced perfectly to retain its smoky flavors while the cheese cuts the richness of the meat in half. Any establishment that offers beet salad as one of its sides truly cares about the sophisticated palate y’all.

Scrambled Egg Sandwich with cheddar cheese, tomatoes and chives, niman ranch, and smoked bacon. Parisian omelette with ham, cheese, mushrooms, onions, and spinach salad. Not the most creatively unique dishes on the menu but solid A’s. They obviously don’t skimp on their portions so you can easily split these and share for a light, hearty lunch.

Smoked salmon and tomato tartines; beautifully presented with a colorful list of ingredients from chives and organic boiled eggs to fresh shaved parmesan and avocado schmear. What I imagine SoCal would look like if she was reimagined as an artisan lunch dish. Superb!

*Insider’s tip: While Pandor is perfect for breakfast or brunch, they don’t serve alcohol (booooooo) but you can easily pick up a few gourmet sandwiches and pack a picnic since they’re located just a few blocks from Newport Beach. There’s even a cute little outdoor area to people watch, very typical of SoCal strip malls so I’d suggest to brown bag that Bloody Mary and make it a funday Sunday y’all! Whatever you do, don’t forget the dessert! That cookie/brownie concoction is seriously TO.DIE.FOR. Trust!*

Happy Fridaaaaaaay!!!

Bon Appétit mes amis!

  1. Parisian-inspired cafe? Yes please! This looks amazing and reminds me a little bit of Cafe Rouge or Patisserie Valerie (both very high up on my list of cafe/restaurants) and reminds me of previous summers spent relaxing in the south of france.. how I'd love to be there right now!! Have a fabulous weekend :)
