Food Porn Friday | Tinga | Los Angeles

TGIF luvahs!!! Now that I’m off the Vegas diet (finally!) I’ve been grubbin’ up and down the coast like there’s no pool parties in sight y’all! Which means lotsa fried food, lotsa cheesy fo’ sheezy, and TONS of carbs so I can hibernate all through winter! Hehe

Spent a beautiful afternoon in LA with my sis earlier this week and wattya know, she’s craving Mexican! Woooohooooo! Found this gem of a Mexican hotspot, Tinga in Hancock Park on Yelp and soooo glad I did! Ice cold Corona, tower of nachos, and sweet/savory corn elote all up in my belly!!! Oh yeaaaaaaaaaah it’s good to be back in the hood y’all!

Here’s what’s on the menu today:

Conchinita Pibil: Orange and achiote marinated pork with habanero salsa, cheddar jack, lime, guacamole and pico de gallo. Something about their nacho chips that makes this dish scrumptious right down to the last bite. All these toppings would traditionally seep into the chips and leave you with a soggy mess halfway through, but these suckers remained crunchy and tough enough to hold a bit of everything in one perfect bite without caving in. The pork was sweet and mild as the extra dosage of hot sauce helps elevate the habanero flavors of the salsa. Delish!

Carnitas Special (everyday 4-7pm) 1/2 lb. Mexican Coca Cola braised carnitas with chicharrones, guajillo pineapple salsa, avocado serrano sauce, and hand pressed tortillas with a big Corona ($16)- HEAVENLY! I’m a sucker for homemade tortillas especially when they come in thick, hearty portions. The better to load up the sweet coke-infused chitlins and secure with a slathering of their refried beans! Although I wished the chicharrones were crunchy so there’s a mix of textures, but all in all a MUST order!

Elote Especial with grilled sweet corn, lime, crema, chili, poblano puree- Just perfect! Sweet, savory, and finished with a dose of citrus tang! Beautifully done.

Chicken Tinga Burrito with chipotle steeped shredded chicken, shredded lettuce, guacamole, chipotle salsa, black beans, pickled red onion, crema and Monterey jack cheese. I LOVE braised meat. I love the stringy texture, the amalgamation of flavors soaked right through each strand, the smoky chipotle flavors wafting through the air even before you can tear right through this baby...We were so full off the other 2 honkin’ dishes we only picked at this burrito but it was enough to know I’m having this bad boy for my midnight snack tonight! lol

*Insider’s tip: Like every other destination in West Hollywood/ Hancock Park there’s NEVER any parking remotely close to the establishment, so park on the streets at nearby 2nd/La Brea when it’s free after 6pm and metered up until 8pm. One of my FAVE streets to shop design goods, you can spend a few hours hunting down home décor items before meeting your buddies for a drink and some tacos at Tinga. I love their casual, quick-style layout designed with the Hollywood hipster in mind. It’s like Keith Haring and Speedy Gonzalez had a love child all up in this mutha! lol...But seriously, the artwork is pretty trippy. You just have to visit and see!*

Happy Friiiiiiiday my loves and as always...
Bon appétit mes amis!
