#JKID Project | Bachelor Pad | The Remix

Monday, September 22, 2014

My personal design motto is to ALWAYS and ONLY buy what you loveloveLOVE! That way, in case you move, as expected in any course of life, your favorite belongings will make that transition with you and grow in the space as much as you have. No more throwing out cheap furniture that can’t make the cut. No more attempting to make pieces work that you clearly don’t have a connection with. It’s ALL about making thoughtful choices when you’re shopping to reflect not only where you are, but where you envision yourself going.

Case in point: My former bachelor client (now en-fianced woohooooo!) moved out of his one-bedroom loft to a 2-bedroom apartment with the soon to be missus. What we needed was a newly refreshed space that not only showcased his prized possessions from the previous loft but improved to now incorporate the Mrs.’ style as well.

Do you remember his original Bachelor Pad design (above) featured in Orange Coast Magazine earlier this year?

Well, here is the new space, upcycled with original pieces and remixed to incorporate a more sophisticated and elegant direction, courtesy of life’s many curveballs.

The mood: Urban modern meets laid-back luxe
The materials: Mixed woods, iron, glass, and velvet

What I love most about the new space is how light and airy it feels with previous dark and moody elements. We were able to achieve that with light gray walls, sheer drapery, and pops of color layered over natural textures of rich leathers and a variety of wood finishes.

What was once a complete man-cave now becomes a modern blend of masculine objects with a feminine touch, the yin-yang environment every couple hopes to achieve with the combination of mixed and matched décor.

What do you think of the space?

It's the LAST day of summer lovies!
Hope y'all go out with a colorful bang!

  5. Ok, my love, Julie...you hit a home run with this one. Love the sunburst mirror, the chandelier, the stainless steel basket on the table, all elements containing the same synergy, also loving the silver pillow, the embroidered/or lace one. And, the 2 new art pieces, the panda and the little framed chandelier. I LOVE the rug! Your advice at the beginning rings so true. Never ever settle. Wait until you can afford what you really want and then it will be with you a lifetime, including upholstered pieces (which can get re-upholstered). This is the reason everyone should hire an interior designer, no matter the budget, as DIY mistakes often cost more than the fees. And, I love your new look. And, your logo. xx's

  6. Oh that is absolutely amazing!! I live with two guys so my place doesn't look as glam but masculine as this but I totally get you when you say to buy only things that you really, really love. We just have the basics right now because we are moving to a new space hopefully next year but I would love to decorate it more!

  24. I love the way you maintained so much of the look that worked so well in the first place, but in a lighter, fresher and boy-meets-girl kind of way. The subtle feminine touches like the patterned sheers, the accessories and some shimmery finishes really created a great feminine/masculine balance. Beautiful!

AND, thank you for stopping by my blog and commenting. I'm a newbie so every little comment is uplifting! 'd love it if you could come by and follow along. www.indigohouseinteriors.com
