Brunch is easily my FAVE meal of the day.

Something about an All-American spread of griddle favorites, steak and pommes frites, veggie omelets, and an assortment of cured meats and cheeses that get my mornings started off right. Add bottomless champeezy, a gaggle of girlfriends and you’ve got an early start to the best day party ever my loves!

Fig and Olive

The Vibe

Fig and Olive’s Newport Beach location has the most gorgeous open-air patio area, perfect for alfresco brunch dining. Salty beach breezes wafting in from PCH, the adjacent Fashion Island mall right under your nose, I’d say this is your best bet for a beautiful SoCal afternoon spent noshing on Mediterranean-inspired cuisine right here in the Pacific.

On the Menu

Fig and Olive salad with fig, apple, manchego, gorgonzola dolce tomato, walnut, olive, romaine from Kenter farm, scallion, fig balsamic, Arbequina olive oil
Truffle mushroom croquette with cremini mushroom, parmesan bechamel, truffle olive oil aioli

Akin to fried risotto, the rich gooey center oozes with earthy flavor.

Fig Gorgonzola Tartlet with prosciutto, fig, walnut, arugula, scallion, tomato on thin puff pastry

I love the idea of puff pastry as a meal. Like a build your own pizza with toppings, I could re-imagine this baby at home for a fancy brunch spread.

Italian omelet with mushroom, tomato, spinach, gorgonzola cheese with Mediterranean fries and mixed greens

Sooooo bland, total pass!

Grilled Thyme Chicken Paillard with lemon and thyme arugula, spinach, pickled red onion, tomato haricot vert, almond, bell pepper, caper, lemon Picholine Olive Oil.

Tastes like it looks, ordinary.

Steak frites with 6oz skirt steak, served with olive oil, Bernaise, skinny fries, and arugula with kumato tomato

The WORST item we had that day. The steak was completely OVERLY salted and very tough to cut and chew. Horribly prepared and made even more ghastly by the heavy handed salted fries and salad. I would have sent this sucker back had it not been for my manners during a private baby shower brunch.

Chocolate Pot de Creme with crunchy praline financiers and vanilla cream

I dream about those little praline clusters. Butter brittle is what they ought to call it- skip the spoon and scoop the chocolate up with these little bricks- you can thank me later.

Caramelized Apple Tart with crisp puff pastry and vanilla ice cream

Delish! After having sampled all three dessert varieties, I’m convinced the pastry Chef knows wassup. Nary a miss with such a range of styles! Not too sweet, not too tart, perfect to share amongst 4 peeps.

Fig and Olive waffle with fresh berries, pearl sugar, and vanilla whipped cream

The BEST item on the their entire menu! I could live off this waffle and die a happy woman. The texture of the waffle is almost cake-like with chunks of whole sugar baked right in. Dense and full of buttery flavor, drizzle the cream atop each bite and be instantly transported to sweet heaven, y’all. Scrumptious!!!

Know Before You Go

Fig and Olive is the perfect place to host your next celebratory event. Their Sunday Brunch menu starts from $40pp complete with 3 courses (soup/salad, entrée, and dessert) and your choice of bubbly. I love that they accommodate large parties in each of their 4 main dining areas so next time you’re around the beach cities, stop by for brunch and work your way up to their dinner menu. I’ve had both and much prefer their am variety with a mix of sweet and savory dishes. Their entrées are infamous for being a bit salty. Very American in flavor (although meant to showcase the coastal regions of the French Riviera), you can’t miss their flight of olive oils and rosemary bread for dipping!*

Bon appétit mes amis!

  1. Such beautiful brunch food!! I love the assorted crostinis and that skirt steak and fries! The coquettes also look soo appetizing! I don't often eat brunch or at least western brunch but it's being the new hot thing people are willing to pay a lot for now here!

  2. I have to agree, brunch is definitely the best meal of the day. Your pictures of food look good enough to eat! I've been to the Fig & Olive on Melrose before. Such a beautiful space and the crostinis are so good! I definitely want to try out the Newport location–I love dining al fresco!
