No winter season is complete in SoCal without a weekend getaway to Mammoth Mountain.

Load the car up with my babies, our buddies, bundles of snow gear, and we’ve got yourselves a mini vacation y’all.
Complete with the most beautiful backdrop for the inevitable photo ops…
FUN FACT: I’ve been snowboarding for the last 15 years.  While some gals prefer sun, sand, and beach over braving the cold, I LIVE to spend winters in a snow-filled wonderland!  Where layers of sweaters, scarves, parkas, hats, gloves, and boots have me wishing it snowed all year long!
Okay, maybe not all year long lol, but at least long enough for me to make a mini trip to Mammoth every month during our winter season.  Can you believe it snowed so much this year they’re slated to still have snow up until July?!!  Holy smokes, that’s a record for these parts!

Imagine shreddin’ the gnar in your hottest bikini!  That’ll be the day.  They don’t call it SoCal living for nothing honey!
I must say, we truly are spoiled in these parts guys…

Know Before You Go

We experienced quite a bit of a snowstorm this season with the mountain shutting down entire roads due to the unpredictable weather. But that shouldn’t deter you from making the drive from LA anyways with or without chains, which you can purchase at most gas stations when nearing the village.  It will take you a good 5.5-6 hours (with stops) to make the trip by car but the road is virtually flat without any unnecessary mountain driving so it’s a pretty smooth ride.

Insider’s Tip

Make sure you stop into Erick Schat’s Bakkery in Bishop (about an hour away from Mammoth and conveniently en route) and grab a few loaves of their freshly baked bread. My favorites are the Bacon Cheeze Bread and their Garlic Cheese Ciabatta. So delicious it’s definitely going to become part of our routine now!
